Germantown Mutual Insurance Company has been an important business in Wisconsin for over 150 years. On April 1, 1854, just six years after Wisconsin had received its statehood, the Germantown Farmers Mutual Insurance Company was established as the first mutual insurance company in Wisconsin. The original officers and agents were prominent local leaders and dedicated to the development of the Germantown area.
As the company grew, its office was housed in a number of different locations in Germantown. The newest building was completed in 1997 and allows for continued expansion.
The need for the new office building was a direct result of the continued growth and prosperity of Germantown Mutual Insurance Company. In the last few years the company has added several new lines of business such as:

Auto-Owners Insurance was founded in 1916 and is the 17th largest insurer in the country. We consistently receive the highest rankings in growth, financial stability and claims service.
Auto-Owners success can be traced back from its present management to the early leadership of Vern V. Moulton who, in 1916, organized Auto-Owners Insurance Company in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. The infant Company had no capital and was housed in one room of a bank building.
Auto-Owners property and casualty companies have the highest possible ratings from A.M. Best Company, A++ (Superior), and the Auto-Owners Life Insurance Company is rated A+ (Superior). The companies are also rated very highly in ratings assigned by other nationally recognized independent rating authorities.

In 2004, the Grange Enterprise exceeded $1.0 billion in direct written premium, an impressive milestone we are very proud to share. Our A.M. Best rating continues to be "A" Excellent.
